Black heavyweight cotton. Same composition as the white version — the assembled-letter word overhead, the two figures eating instant noodles below — but on black, everything shifts. The white version reads like afternoon. This one reads like 2am.

White on black. The mixed-case letters read louder here — pasted against darkness, the word feels more like a label than a caption. Only this word. No Riches. No Déprimés. Just: children.

The figures below have traded rendering weights. On white, the left girl was solid and dark, the right one nearly transparent. On black, the left girl is filled with white — her hair a white block, her face a dark void cut into it, her presence heavier, more opaque. The right girl remains in spare white line, barely there, a suggestion. The same two people, described differently by the same ink on a different ground.

On white, they are eating noodles somewhere light and unremarkable. On black, they are eating noodles at night. The cup is still visible — the brand on it still readable — and the chopsticks still move toward the bowl. The act has not changed. The atmosphere has. ERD does not explain why these particular girls are eating noodles at this hour, or why a luxury brand named for depressed rich children keeps returning to this image. The image just keeps returning.
