ERD “Stalin’s Secret Daughter” Pullover Hoodie — Black

Two texts. One garment. History as a cut.

The front carries a white-framed archive image — a room, multiple figures, the grain and contrast of a photograph not meant to be reproduced. Above it: STALIN’S SECRET. Below it, letters spaced wide: D A U G H T E R. The phrase sits in the gap between documented history and what official records leave out — Stalin’s children, legitimate and otherwise, including Svetlana Alliluyeva, who defected to the West in 1967 and spent the rest of her life trying to escape the name she was born into. The unverified ones never got that far. ERD prints the category: secret daughter. The image behind it could be any room in any archive.

The back is three lines of handwritten text, slanted, informal, the opposite of a monument: Soviet Counterpart to Europe’s / Girl with Scissors / cut. The girl with scissors is a figure from mid-century European literature and mythology — the one who cuts herself free, or cuts others, or is cut. Her Soviet counterpart is the same figure behind a different border, under a different name, doing the same thing or having it done to her. The word “cut” sits alone on the third line. It ends there.

The garment is entirely black and white. No gray, no texture, no distressing. The restraint is deliberate: the references carry enough weight without it.
