Three frames. One person. Three different moments of not looking at you.

Centered on the front chest, three square black-and-white photographs arranged side by side like a strip of film: a young woman, or a girl, in each frame. First frame: turned to the side. Second frame: head down, somewhere inside herself. Third frame: a different angle, same interiority. The images have the grain and stillness of 1970s or 80s youth cinema — Shunji Iwai, or the photographs that end up on the covers of French literary novels. Above the three frames, in small lowercase type: e.r.d

The back is empty. Clean brick red. Nothing.

The color of the garment is not incidental — brick red, faded slightly, sits in the same tonal register as the images: worn, warm, a little melancholic. ENFANTS RICHES DÉPRIMÉS translates as “depressed rich kids.” This garment is the image of that: three photographs of a girl who is not performing for the camera, on a hoodie the color of something old and familiar, with a brand name printed so small it almost isn’t there.
